Gambia’s Saihou Gassama is being tested by a club in Spain, Foroyaa Sport can report.
The midfielder has been taken under the wings of Algeciras CF, a side in the third echelon of Spanish football.
Gassama is one of a dozen players hoping to impress coaches there in a bid to be offered a contract ahead of start of the season.
Recently on holiday in the country, the 22-year-old returned following the Eid prayers to set about searching for a club and his search took him to Algecira who already are understood to be evaluating, adding the former Gambia Ports Authority to their books.
The ex-Gambia U-20 midfielder and scorer of the jaw-dropping long range goal in Gambia’s humiliating defeat to Morocco three years ago, is a free agent after running down his season-long deal with La Hoya Lorca CF in the third division.
Saihou has spent the last five years shuttling between clubs within the Segunda B (third tier) since signing for Real Zaragoza’s B-team from Gambia’s Ports in 2009.
He featured twenty-four times for La Hoya Lorca, seven of them as a starter and scoring thrice as the side narrowly missed out on in the promotion play-offs to reach the Segunda (second tier).
