Activista an ActionAid Global Youth Network of the Gambia opened a four day training of trainers on Youth Participation in Governance and understanding Human rights based approach. The training which is taking place at the Bansang Youth Centre started from Sunday, 17 July, 2016 is expected to end on Wednesday, 20 July, 2016.
35 participants came from across the country, 3 from each region, 2 from Senegal and the rest are activista core volunteers.
This Training, according to organisers is part of Activista’s annual national training of trainers of youth across the country. According to Ansumana Camara, Activista National Training Coordinator, participants are expected to be trained as trainers and are expected to conduct a step down training in their respective regions.
Explaining some of the topics Activista National Training Coordinator said participants will be taken through understanding human rights with focus on youth, and human rights based approach as well as governance among other topics.
In his opening statement, Kebba Kora, Bansang Alkalo, expressed gratitude to Activista for choosing his town to conduct what he referred to as very important training.
The Alkalo challenged the youth to know their civil rights before embarking on any form of campaign against anything.
He noted that youth being the future leaders should take the lead in nation building.
He also highlighted some of the opportunities that are currently available which were not available at the time in terms of Information, Communication and Technology.
“Youth should make the best use of the current technologies to have more information and learn more. I urged you to make the best use of the Training,” he underscored.
For his part, Saikou .K. Gassama Action Aid the Gambia Programme Specialist and Governance officer who doubled as the resource person of the Training, highlighted the importance of the training. He also took participants through the principles of Human rights.
He further urged participants to make the best use of the training.
Other speakers included Saiba .T. Susso activista Social Media and Communication Coordinator, Karamba Sanyang Activista Chairperson CRR South and Aminata Ndongo.
