Yesterday, what many had thought was impossible did happen. Seven opposition parties selected a flag bearer at a convention to contest the December 1 presidential elections. Now all seven opposition parties are to give their support to the flag bearer who must contest as an independent candidate and pursue a programme agreed upon by all stakeholders.
There were no losers in this contest. It was not the victory of any individual or party but the victory of a transparent and democratic process that is inclusive and has kept all leaders together.
The leaders are simply answering to the demands of the people who want change. They have demanded that the leaders come together to get only one flag bearer who will be capable of defeating the incumbent at the polls.
The leaders have got the people to select the flag bearer. It is the people who can demonstrate their might by voting the incumbent out.
