The Gambia Democratic congress started its tour yesterday with rallies at Sanchaba Sulay Jobe, Bundung and Mandinaring.
At the rallies, the GDC presidential candidate told the gatherings that it is often said that he is sponsored by President Jammeh and even Boko Haram; that this is meant to undermine their support base. He said this rumour is not true.
He said he is here for The Gambia and that he will do his best to bring prosperity to The Gambia. He said anybody is free to come and join their party, including President Jammeh.
He saluted the coalition, particularly, Halifa Sallah, Adama Barrow and Sidia Jatta who he said is his role model.
He expressed his desire for a peaceful election and urged his supporters to step aside and allow a coalition convoy to pass through when they meet with their own convoy on the way. He urged all politicians to follow suit. He stressed that “we are all Gambians and there is no need for us to fight each other”.
The GDC leader promised to change the landscape of the country if elected. In reference to health, he narrated his experience of the pathetic condition at health facilities and promised to introduce health insurance.
He also promised to protect freedom of speech and democracy, noting that the voiceless will speak for themselves. Gambians in exile in the Diaspora will be free to return to the country.
He criticised tribalism and urged people to make the right choice without ethnic consideration. He declared his support for the youth without whom there can be no development.
He said come December 1, he will replace President Jammeh.
