UTG Law Students’ Association to mark Law Day

The members of the University of The Gambia (UTG) Law Students’ UTG Law StudentsAssociation held a press briefing on Wednesday, 17 September, 2014 to inform the general public about the state of preparations regarding the Law Day they plan to mark on the 18th October 2014.

Mr. Bakary Fatty, the President of the UTG Law Students’ Association, who is also a final year candidate, said they will be organizing this second annual Law Day on the 18th of October 2014. He said this year’s theme is ‘The role of the law student and the development of the law in society.’

He said his team is the sixth executive council since the establishment of the association, adding that the previous executives were unable to dedicate and observe a ‘Law Day’. He said his team wants to leave a legacy by being the ones who started this highly successful event. He called for support from the general public and particularly the press in making the event successful.

Abdou Aziz Saho, the legal officer of the association, for his part, thanked their partners for the support and collaboration. He said this is an event in which law students come together to be addressed by seasoned lawyers and for them to also organise debates. He noted the Law Faculty of UTG has been very much instrumental in the progress of the University and as such needs to be supported in its activities. He said the Law Faculty is making the country proud as it is producing lawyers to serve in the promotion and defence of justice, adding that the students are also participating in the high level debates in the international arena.

Mr. Almami S. Manga, a member noted that the association was formed in 2007 and has not been organising a law day before but that now they will be marking it as an annual event. He promised that this year’s event would be an exceptionally successful law day.
