PREGNANT WOMEN AND POOR TRANSPORTATION

Lack of access to transportation and ambulance has made pregnant women with difficult delivery very vulnerable. A woman who had difficult delivery had to be taken on board a donkey cart and fell while on the way to the main road.

She had to be rushed to Banjul and was just lucky to arrive and receive treatment. The doctor is said to have discovered that the child had moved from the normal position and operation had to be effected to save both mother and child.

One could imagine what could have happened if they did not reached a hospital with the facilities to conduct operations. Poor transportation in areas is a major cause of maternal mortality and should be addressed.
