Mr Seedy Jaiteh, the former Human Resources (HR) Director of Gamcel Company, has now spent 94 days in detention without trial and access to family.
Mr. Jaiteh was reported to have been picked up around mid-night by men in plain clothes at his residence in Manjai Kunda on 27 August 2014 and then whisked away in a black vehicle with tinted glasses and without a registration number.
A close family source told this medium that Mr. Jaiteh is held at Mile Two prison, but they do not have access to him.
The source told Foroyaa that following Mr. Jaiteh’s arrest, the family members had initially tried to locate him at the NIA, police headquarters and NDEA at Holgam in Kanifing but were told that he was not held in any of these detention centres. The source added that he was later traced at the NIA headquarters in Banjul where the family was initially allowed to be taking food to him but this was stopped on 2 September, 2014.
The source said, “We have been allowed access to him for about five days when he was detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) head office in Banjul but could not see him since then as he was moved to Mile Two prisons.”
Mr. Jaiteh is fifty two years old and has two wives and a child.
Editor’s note: It was stated in the last publication that Mr. Jaiteh was held for 88 days when it should have been 76 days. This was an error which is deeply regretted. Since his arrest on 27 August this year up to today, Mr. Jaiteh has spent 82 days in detention.
