The GPU invited Diplomats, The Majority and Minority leaders of the National Assembly, government officials at the Ministry of Information, Journalists, leaders of civil society and political leaders from all the parties to join their members in remembrance of Dyeda Hydara, on Friday 19th December 2014.
The venue for the event was the Tango Headquarters. Mr Madi Ceesay , Managing Director of the Daily News which is still registered but had its office closed and the paper withdrawn from circulation by administrative order, was one of the key speakers and Mr Madi Jobarteh, Programme Officer at Tango was the second guest speaker.
Interventions from the floor came from Mr Pap Saine, the Publisher of the Point Newspaper which he co-founded with Deyda Hydara. Opinions were expressed by the US Charges d’Affaires, the Minority leader and the representatives of political parties.
All paid tribute to Deyda and called on the authorities to re-open the case and conduct diligent investigation to apprehend and try the culprits who will never be at peace with themselves for having committed a heinous crime.
