WHAT IS HOLDING UP THE TRADE SEASON? OPEN UP THE MARKET TO NEW BUYERS TO SAVE THE SEASON

The purchasing price of groundnuts has been announced, but the farmers are yet to see the buyers coming for their crops. The village heads have been telling the villagers that they should pay their yard rates. The response of the farmers has been brief. They have been asking them to help them to sell their groundnuts.
Indeed!  Indeed!  How could farmers pay yard rates when nothing is said about the purchase of their only source of income? The government should clearly state the world market price for the nuts, who are going to be the buyers? When are they going to start purchasing and what quantity is to be purchased?
A government that is sensitive to the needs of the farming community would not ask people to return to the farm without guaranteeing market access to their crops as well as fair prices. Farmers’ Eye is watching as the farmers register their desperation.  The columnist will reach out to GGC to find out what its concrete plans are. The farmers need answers.
