The UN envoy told the world that the government of the Gambia has agreed to work with the UN to ensure that the rule of law prevails in handling the December 30th Armed Attack.
In this light, one expected that all those arrested for having connection with those accused of the attack that are not charged after 72 hours should be released or taken before a court. This is the law of the land. The executive is required by the constitution to direct its agents to abide by this provision of the constitution aimed at preventing unlawful detention. Any disregard of constitutional dictates amount to impunity which should draw the criticism of all decent human beings.
The executive is being reminded that all those people detained are Gambian citizens first before becoming relatives of another person. They need the protection of the law and those who have the privilege to be governing the country should assume their constitutional responsibility and protect all citizens, be they in agreement with them or not. That is what is required of the leaders of all countries.
