Gamtel on Sunday leapfrogged Brikama United atop the GFF First Eco
sponsored top flight after humbling fourth-placed Gambia Armed Forces.Unbeaten Brikama led by a point after they pulled off a dramatic
2-2 affair with seventh-placed Hawks on Saturday. But their lead
proved to be a temporary one ahead of the Sunday fixture of the
telecoms giants.
Tapha Manneh’s Gamtel did not hesitate to capitalise on the chance
opened to them to top the league in Week Nine by beating the Soldiers
1-0. The current standings of the league is one of a tight race with
one point between the first, second and third-placed teams.
Elsewhere, Wallidan moved up the ranking to sixth place after downing
Interior 2-1.
In earlier fixtures over the weekend, Bombada suffered their third
defeat of the season after having been defeated by the 2010 league
champions and once-beaten Alagie Sarr’s Gambia Ports Authority on a
final 1-0 score.
Real de Banjul breezed past Serrekunda United, accumulating sixteen
points in the process.
The Bakau United vs Banjul United tie was put off.
SK United sits bottom of the league on two points in nine matches with
Bakau United, who have a game in hand, second from the basement on
five points.
