Imam Lasana Fatty from Kerewan Dumbo Koto in the Lower Fulladu District of the Central River Region South is reported to be under detention since Saturday July 5th 2014.
According to family sources there is a dispute which needs to be settled regarding the existence of two mosques and two Imams in the village.
They do not understand the role of the police in what appears to be a civil matter.
Attempts to speak to the Police PRO before going to press proved unsuccessful. Further investigation will be done.
The Constitution is very clear on fundamental rights and freedoms. Section 25 (1)(b) and (c) read:
“Every person shall have the right to …. b) freedom of thought, conscience and belief, which shall include academic freedom; c) freedom to practise any religion and to manifest such practice;”
Hence anyone who is deprived of such rights should go to the high court for redress.
