FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND POLITICS STATE MEDIA UNDER THE MONOPOLY OF ONE PARTY

The Constitution of The Gambia starts by asserting that Sovereignty of
the Gambia resides in the people. It further asserts that every person
has the right to freedom of expression, including freedom of the
Media. It adds that the state media should convey divergent views and
dissenting opinions. This however is not the case. Hence the Gambian
people do not get a balanced opinion from their state broadcaster.
Those who hold contending political views have every right to
establish media houses which would do what the state media fail to do.
Gambia should join the ranks of countries which have radio stations
owned by political parties which would contest for audience by being
objective in their reporting.
