The 16-year-old born in Sweden to Gambian parents has been on Stamford Bridge outfit’s wish-list for a while along with other potential signings.
Chelsea scouts have watched and long monitored the youngster’s progression at club Brommapojkarna’s U-19s.
With defensive midfield his favourite role, Joseph is also capable of fielding at centre back and has, according to reports, just the required combativeness liked by Mourinho. He’s expected to make the move to Chelsea July 1st when the transfer window officially opens.
Colley will join London club’s youth set up as a starting point to continue his progress.
Gambia and Sweden have been locked in a protracted fight over talents. The Scandinavian country tried to lure Gambia-born Modou Barrow before the latter decided to play for Gambia shunning his adopted country.
And, with the recent rise of Joseph, there is already talks of another likely push and pull between the Swedish and Gambia Football Federations over Colley in the future.
Towering Joseph has played for Sweden at U-17 level but remains eligible to play for Gambia through parentage.
