The Blue Boys who gained promotion only last term looked headed for relegation escaping only by two points.
A redeemed Wallidan made sure they’re spared of their league blushes by slaloming past Gamtel on a 2-1 score to lay claims on the FA Cup rechristened Football Federation Cup (FF Cup).
The result brings to an end league champions Gamtel’s attempt on a double this campaign deflating the telecom giants bid to scoop the gong a fifth time.
Held at the Box bar mini stadium, yesterday’s celebration earns Wallidan the cup for the 17th time –the only club to have won the silverware in the GFF domestic league.
Having re-claim the coveted the trophy the Blue Boys automatically qualifies to the Caf Confederations Cup.
But it remains unclear whether or not the capital-based side will pay up and participate in the continental competition giving they’ve had to withdraw from previous international Cups for financial reasons.
