Mr. Sheikh Cham, a resident of Kombo Lamin and a staff of the Social Security and Housing Finance Cooperation (SSHFC), has been finally arraigned before Magistrate Colley of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8th June, 2015 and charged with obstructing narcotic officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDEA).
He was granted bail in the sum of Fifty Thousand Dalasi (D50, 000.00).
When the matter was called, prosecutor Jawla represented the state.
The charge sheet states that Sheikh Cham on or about the 19 day of March, 2015 obstructed narcotics officers while they were on the execution of their duties in Lamin village.
However, Mr. Cham denied the charge preferred against him.
The trial magistrate granted bail to the accused person in the sum of D50, 000.00 and ordered him to produce a Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit and must drop a valid National ID Card and a title deed within the Greater Banjul Area.
The prosecution, at this stage, applied for an adjournment to call their first witness.
The case is adjourned till the 20th of June, 2015 for the commencement of the trial.
Readers could recall that Mr. Cham was first arrested by the NDLEA officials on the 19th March after he allegedly denied a search to be conducted on him by the officers of NDEA on the grounds that the said officers did not identify themselves to him.
He however accused the officers for torturing and detaining him.
