Information reaching Foroyaa from the Central River Region reveals that BubacarrDicko, a fisherman in Jarumeh-Koto, was on Monday, 22nd June 2015 arrested by the police for fishing in the country’s territorial waters in contravention of the president’s recent pronouncement that non-Gambians should not fish in the Gambia territorial waters.
According to the source, Dicko was taken to Janjanbureh Police Station on Monday and detained until Wednesday, 24th June, before being released on bail.
When Dicko reported on bail yesterday, he was again asked to report today Friday.
When contacted on the matter, Ebrima Cham, the Police Commissioner for Central River Region (CRR), confirmed Dicko’s arrest and release on bail. He said “Bubacarr is arrested and charged with disobedience to lawful order by challenging the executive directive banning non-Gambians from fishing.”
