The GVF were conferred the award at a Confederation of African Volleyball congress staged in Algeria.
Bossed by Yunusa Barry, the national association from Gambia was also described as among the best two federations in Zone II. The gong comes on the back of federation recent strides this year.
For the sport’s rapid rise in a football dominated country, the volley continental body acknowledged the GVF’s efforts through helping set up African Dream Project, a plan aimed at tapping talents from every strata of grassroots.
Gambia, this year alone, took part in six major volleyball events in under nine months securing two gold medals, three silver and one bronze medals in the process.
The female outfit clutched gold in the sub-zonal Rio qualifiers and recently in Abidjan and a bronze at the African Games qualifiers. The men team though snatched silver at the Sub-Zonal, AAG qualifiers and continental cup in Abidjan.
The Country also hosted FIVB level II coaching course for the first time and successfully hosted maiden beach volleyball championship.
