Reports reaching Foroyaa indicate that the US primaries are leaving lasting impression on the Gambian voter. A man visited the Foroyaa office and asked why we are not giving full coverage to the US primaries of the major political parties. He explained that he is impressed by the fact that the aspirants to the Presidency have to fight it out before any of them could receive the endorsement of their parties.
He expressed that such contest brings out the best in each candidate before one is selected. He strongly recommends that parties in the Gambia should move in that direction.
Will that happen for the 2016 elections. Foroyaa will try to interview party leaders to find out how they select their presidential candidates and whether they would adopt the process of holding primaries if that is not the method they use.
