The applicant maintains that the conditions of the bail granted to Halifa Sallah by the Brikama Magistrates Court tantamount to the denial of bail. The Court, presided by Mr. Kayode Olajubutu had ordered that two sureties be ex-IGPs or Brigadier who retired within the past eight years.
Halifa Sallah was arrested on Sunday 8 March, a day after he concluded a fact finding mission at Makumbaya Village in Kombo North District. The fact finding mission was motivated by reports of abuse of residents of Makumbaya and other villages by armed men in uniform and green boys and green girls, accompanied by so-called witch doctors.
He was detained until Wednesday, 11 March when he appeared before the Brikama Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty to three charges: spying, seditious intention and control of procession. He was remanded in custody since he could not meet the conditions of the bail. He has been denied visitors since he was taken to the maximum security wing at Mile 2 prison.
The trial has been adjourned until 25th March at the Brikama Magistrates Court.
