The 22nd July Square in Banjul on Tuesday 11th August for another Gambian contingent to the troubled region of Darfur in the Republic of Sudan. The contingent numbers 190 soldiers and six (6) officers led by Colonel Serign Modou Njie.

Speaking at the farewell parade, the Vice president Aja Isatou Njie Saidy said the men and officers were fully prepared and with their experience as well they are fully expected to replace their fellows who have successfully completed their mission in Darfur. She said as soldiers they are always expected to protect people of this region whose rights are violated. She called on them to take all the challenges ahead of them.
Earlier on, the Army Chief of Defence Staff Lt. General Lang Tombong Tamba expressed his delight to see the men join the men and officers of the Armed forces in their farewell parade for the troubled region of Darfur. He said the government of the Gambia is fully committed in bringing peace in the Darfur. He said it is one of the most difficult task of their missions to bring in Darfur. He said the previous contingents have work hard and achieve a lot in their mission. He said the Gambia Armed Forces is always known as very disciplined, respectful and dedicated to their responsibilities. He also thanked the people of Darfur for their understanding and cooperation with the Gambian contingents at all times. He called on them to keep the confidence that the people in trouble region of Darfur may have on them as good soldiers, he remarked.
CDS Tamba thanked all those who have always been behind them in giving them all the necessary support. He finally employed the men and officers who are leaving for Darfur to be patient and to mention the good quality already in them. The ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Armed forces, Government officials, family members and friends of the contingent and a cross section of the community.
