Marriage & Family : ‘HEBATEH’ (He Went Too Far)
By Amie Sillah on 26-10-09 (343 reads) News by the same author

Alh Bashir is a descendant of Kings. He should have contested for the throne but his preference is business. He became a business tycoon in the sub region. He sells food items, readymade clothes and materials of all sorts; building materials and household utensils. Alhajj is into every lucrative business.
Fate is not kind to Alhajj. He lost his wife, Aja Ndumbeh to Asthma, and his ‘Taw’ (eldest) son Harjata to Leukamia (blood cancer). His surviving daughter Ma Horejah is also inflicted with Asthma.
Alhajj refused to marry a second wife. His excuse being he does not want a step mother to come and maltreat Ma Hor. “When she is married I’ll consider remarrying another wife. But for now, I want everyone to help me nurse my ‘baby’.” He told friends, relatives and household servants. Ma is an intelligent Lass. She excelled from Nursing to University. She studied pharmacy.
Alhajj has a ‘God father’ in Business. He introduced him to the act and lent him a starting capital. He excelled and became a business tycoon himself.
Alhajj Bukari resides in a neighboring state. He never asks any favours from Alh Bashir except now.
His son Isaka, studied civil engineering. He now stays and works in the United States. Alhajj Bukari wants his son to marry Alhajj Bashir’s surviving daughter.
The two children got betrothed to each other by their parents. This move is seen to be cementing the ties between the two great families.
At the beginning, it works. But as the two children grew into adulthood, a beautiful, attractive young lady and a handsome young man, problems began to prop in. Isaka, turned into an arrogant, overbearing, possessive Youngman. Ma Hor turned into a pleasant, easy going young lady. She resonated well with her house servants. She empathized with the wretched of the earth. Her attitude and composure endeared her to her household servants.
Their two characters became incompatible Ma Hor began to resent Issa’s arrogance and haughtiness.
Accidentally, as she almost drowns in a lake she was rescued by a good Samaritan, Omar. She grew fond of him. Their chemistries matched. What happens next? How did the tycoon dad react? Read to find out.

Isaka Is Stunned
Hurrie’s unexpected slap came from the blue.
It took Isaka some seconds to react. He asked himself a stupid question. “does she slap me? No, me Isaka! It cannot be.”
He rushed after her.

Alhajj With Metoo
Metoo showed Alhajj some repairs they were to make on the cars. Alhajj was vetting the expenses for approval. They argued on the merits and demerits of the expenses.

Isaka Interrupts Them
Isaka came dashing at them. Alhajj! Alhajj!” He came down the short stairs.
He held Metoo by the collar of his shirt and asked him out in a rude fashion.
“What happened?” asked Alhajj, who was stunned by Isaka’s action.
“Alhajj! Can this nigger leave us alone?” he asked arrogantly.
“Metoo!” Alhajj called out.
“Yes Sir!” answered Metoo, bowing.
“Can you excuse us?”
“Yes Sir!”
Alhajj gave him the transport file and he left.
“Sit down!” Alhajj told Isaka.
“No! I’ll not sit. Your daughter has just slapped me on my face. I mean my woman, the mother of my unborn children, the woman I want to marry just slapped my face,” he protested.
Isaka continued with his complaint “The girl I want to get married to in less than a month’s time has used her filthy hands to slap my face. I don’t deserve this, man!” “Where is she?” Alhajj called out his driver: “Metoo”.
When he answered, Alhajj ordered him:”Go and get the Princess to come and answer me right now. I mean immediately. Bring her here now,” he shouted.
Metoo bowed and went out to do what his master wanted him to do to bring the Princess.
After Metoo left, Alhajj started to plead with Isaka: “Please, Isaka. Calm down!” Isaka was pacing the room up and down in a rage.
“Calm down! I’ll get everything under control. Absolute control, I mean,” he coaxed Isaka.
“Alhajj! Don’t tell me to calm down. My pride is deeply hurt. Who is the Princess? She is only a spoilt brat!”
“This is the height of disrespect shown to a concerned brother. Shit! I don’t deserve this!” He yelled. “I don’t!”
Alhajj lamented on his daughter’s rash, unreasonable behaviour.
The Suffering Princess
The Princess got a severe attack which comes about at the height of her tantrums. It is deadly. Alhajj feared it. Hurrie went behind the mansion and struggled with her asthmatic bouts. She coughed and heaved.

The Search
Metoo searched everywhere calling her name. “My Princess! My Princess!” But to no avail. Musa was close by combing his hair but did not notice anything.
The Princess collapsed on the ground behind the mansion, as she struggled with her life.

Isaah With Alhajj
Isaka justified his intervention. “I am a concerned fiancé. I cannot idly standby and watch my woman killed herself due to her stubbornness. What happened to her mom? She should damn well know that asthma is not something you joke with.”

Metoo Is Back
Metoo is back without the Princess “Where is my daughter? Where is the Princess?” asked a bewildered father.
“Excuse me Alhajj! I’ve searched everywhere but she is nowhere to be seen. The Princess could not be found,” he explained. He added “I don’t think the Princess is within the compound.”
“What! Call me Ousman,” said an alarmed Alhajj.
“Okay Alhajj.”
“What about her two room mates, Anna and Awa?” he asked.
“They have not seen her,” answered Metoo.
“She must be at her friend after I’ve already warned her to stop seeing him. Get me Ousman and Musa and tell them to bring back that boy and my daughter!” he ordered. “Yes sir, Alhajj!” Metoo answered and left.
Isaka picked up the conversation. “Which damn boy is that?” He asked with arrogance.

Anna Comes In
Anna came in crying. She fell at Alhajj’s feet and wailed.
“Alhajj! Alhajj! The Princess is dying,” she announced.
“She has collapsed on the grass at the mansion’s back yard.”
“What!” exclaimed both men who immediately rushed out to rescue Princess Horejah.
“No! No! My Princess will not die.” Alhajj shouted out.
Hawa helped to resuscitate her, while she shouted for Hannah to come with the inhaler.

Metoo Arrives In
Metoo arrived with the inhaler which was right away administered on Horejah. Alhajj and Isaka also arrived at the scene.
“Give me the inhaler!” Alhajj demanded. He, himself, administered it on his daughter. “Get me a car ready to rush her to the clinic. I don’t want to lose her.”
Hurrie was then rushed in a car to the family clinic.

At The Clinic
Docter Sallah administered some heavy drugs to free the air sacs (alveoli) and eased her breathing space. He gave some injections. Isaaka offered to save her life. “Young man! There is nothing you can do about it. Just hold yourself together,” The doctor advised Isaka. He wanted to protest but Alhajj signaled him to comply. “Okay!” He agreed. “Just take care of her.”

Docter Protests
The docter turned to Alhajj and said to him: “Alhajj, why did you allow her to reach this stage? It is dangerous. We could have lost her. Don’t allow it again.”
“Okay! Okay! I’ve heard you! I’ve heard you!” He sighed.
