Mr Ismaila Naban has been chosen for the 34th training course for Young African
Journalists taking place in the Egyptian capital Cairo, a press release issued by the Gambia Press Union reveals. He is among at least a dozen African journalists who will be receiving a thorough grounding in basic journalism skills with a view to enhancing their capacity.

Naban, who works at The Gambia News & Report Magazine as a reporter and editorial assistant, has already left for Cairo for the three-week long training.
Organized by the Union of African Journalists (UAJ) and the Ministry of Information of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the training course runs from 31St October to 19 November
2009.

Other Gambian journalists who had attended the training course include Modou Nyang (Foroyaa Newspaper), Pa Modou Faal (The Point newspaper), Fabakary Taal (The Nation newspaper) and PK Jarjue (Daily Observer newspaper).
Naban’s participation at the training course is facilitated by the Gambia Press Union (GPU). Earlier this year, the GPU also made it possible for both Mariatou Ngum-Saidy and Baboucarr Senghore respectively of the Daily Observer and The Point newspapers to undergo an intensive training course in parliamentary reporting in South Africa.
Another beneficiary of the GPU training package network is Modou Sanyang of The
Point newspaper who went to Ghana for training in journalism skills.
