Mr. Sanyang said the lack of salaries for this long period has made life very difficult for him and his colleagues. He said the situation has rendered them unable to meet certain basic family obligations. According to Mr. Sanyang, the Muslim ‘Tobaski’ feast is approaching but that the staff of Gamcot and their families may not be denied the opportunity to partake in the it because of the lack of salaries for sixteen months.
Efforts were made to raise the issue with the acting manager of Gamcot, Mr. Woppa Baldeh, but this reporter was told that he has traveled out of the region.
When approached, the Secretary General of the Cotton Growers Association (COGA), Mr. Omar Sompo Ceesay, confirmed that the Gamcot staff have not received their salaries. He said the situation is very unfortunate but appealed to the staff to be patience as plans, according him, are underway to revitalize the company.
Attempts were also made by this reporter to talk to former manager of the company Mr. Amadou Danso, on the issue of lack of salaries for the staff but it could not materialize.
