To mark the end of the conclave, the RP party held a press briefing attended by members of both the Gambian and Senegalese media at the hotel venue. The party leader of RP, Elhajj Mamoune Ibrahima Niasse, who is also a vice president in the Senegalese senate, told the press that his party aims to serve the Senegalese people and to make them to fully understand that they are people who live in a sovereign state. He said his party stands for justice. Mr. Niasse said their first political congress was held in Morocco and that this Banjul meeting is the second one. The RP leader said his party promotes the ideals of Pan Africanism and that is the reason why they want to tour Africa.
Mr. Niasse thanked the government of the Gambia for facilitating their visit but was quick to add that his party however financed its stay in the Gambia. He also thanked the delegates for what he described as “their hard work.”
“I would not give a long statement, because the Secretary General has said it all. Let us all work hard in making sure that we have a better Senegal, because you all know how Senegal is at the moment, even if not for us but for our children and our grand children,” concluded the RP leader.
Speaking earlierSecretary General of the party, told journalist that he was saying exactly what the party leader had assigned him to tell the people, including the Gambia public. He thanked their party executive and militants and said their aim is to make sure that the RP becomes a successful and leading political party in Senegal.
He said they are interested in the development of their country and that the militants will continue to work towards the day when a candidate is chosen to contest in the next presidential election in Senegal.
“Elhajj Mamoune Niasse said he will buy seven new cars for the party and will give 80 million CFA to the party to keep it going. He believes that if these cars are distributed throughout the different regions in Senegal, the political work will be greatly facilitated.”
Dr. Fall told journalist that the party was formed on the 29 March 2003 in Diourbel.
