When Mr. Jobe was contacted, he confirmed the story but added that the new owner would build a super market on the said piece of land. The six canteen owners however wrote a petition to the Secretary of State for Local Government and Lands who is responsible for religious affairs complaining of the eviction order.
Fadera complained that after forcefully removing them from the area they have been occupying for 28 years they have not been allocated an alternative place to continue their business. The place is said to have been allocated to a businessman who is yet to up any new structure nor operate any business in the area. This is what motivated Mr. Fadera to express his grievances and to seek for a remedy. Attempts to talk to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Lands were made but the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Abdoulie Manneh, declined to comment on the issue and referred this reporter to the Director of Physical Planning.
This paper also contacted the Director of Physical Planning, Mr. Kalilou Giteh, but he also declined to talk and emphasized to this reporter that he is a civil servant and is not allowed to speak to the press.
This reporter then asked the Minister of Local Government to comment on the issue but he told him that he is not in a position to talk to the press unless he is authorized by the press officer at the Office of the President.
