In the ongoing treason trial of former Chief of Defence Staff of the armed forces, Lieutenant General Lang Tombong Tamba, Brigadier General Omar Bun Mbye, Major Lamin Bo Badjie, Lieutenant Colonel Kawsu Camara (Bombarder), Former Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Modou Gaye, Gibril Ngorr Secka, Abdoulie Joof (Lie) and Youseff Ezziden (Rambo), at the High Court in Banjul, on Monday, 3 May 2010, the prosecution closed its case and the defence applied to the court to submit that all the defendants have no case to answer. The defence counsels will file their written submissions for adoption by the court on 13 May 2010.
Before the commencement of proceedings the accused persons were not present in court while the trial judge and all the counsels were present. The judge asked the DPP for the accused persons but the DPP explained that he did not know their whereabouts even though they were told that the case should commence at 1 p.m. The DPP directed a state counsel who was part of the prosecution to go out and look for the accused persons within the premises of the court but he never returned. The DPP himself went out in search of the accused but came back empty handed. He then applied for the court to stand down for a short while, which was granted. After fifteen minutes the accused persons accompanied by a heavy escort appeared in handcuffs which were taken off before they entered the witness box.
